Pipeline Applications of Spray Foam   Spray Foam Systems are superior to the sandbag insulation methods traditionally used with Pipelines as Trench Breakers and Pillows. Pipeline Trench Breakers Foam prevents erosion that can be caused by the lateral movement of runoff in the open trench. Once AIA has applied its Trench Breaker Foam Insulation, pipeline contractors can back fill up to the breaker. AIA employs nitrogen pressurized tanks that deploy the material at the appropriate ratio so that materials are always on ratio. Application is faster than filling, securing and applying traditional sandbags. Foam application saves labor costs and overall construction time.

 

Pipeline Pillows In addition, AIA  can also spray pipe pillows, when lowering in the pipe line. Pipe pillows decrease the costs of lowering in both labor time, and the usual timber costs of  timbers traditionally employed. These foam pillow have been used in Canada Pipelines since the early 1980s and are considered the preferred method of pipe support in gravel or rock trench applications because: Pillows serve as an excellent support for the pipe allowing the sand bedding to run under the pipe and provide the necessary bedding. Safe to use Lightweight Easy to handle. Prefabricated at non-construction labor rates. Consistent in density and shape. Essentially unchanged in form after years of burial. Unlike sandbags which have no flexibility, the density of foam allows for differential settlement underneath a section of pipe, thus avoiding pressure points which can dent the pipe. Pillow may be used at spacings suitable to specific ditch conditions (side or over bends, etc) Pillows support the pipe to alleviate potential damage from fallen rock. When pillows are used the bedding is placed after the pipe is lowered minimizing the risk of washouts.  Serve as water barriers on minor slopes when no breakers are installed. Foam pillows afford the best protection, enhance reliability and improve productivity on any pipeline construction project.
